Declaration of the participants of the international conference
of the Croatian Pan-European Union
“Pan-European model for the European Union – Croatia in the European Union”
At the solemn occasion of the celebration of the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the
European Union, we, participants of the international conference of the Croatian Pan-European
Union “Pan-European model for the European Union – Croatia in the European Union” from a
number of European countries in the city of heroism and great suffering Vukovar which is a symbol
of peace and reconciliation
– Express our gratitude to all the friends, prominent persons and states, which supported Croatia in
the difficult times of war or on its way into the European Union,
– Give our thanks to all the member-states of the European Union for their timely ratification of
the accession treaty between the Republic of Croatia and the European Union, before the announced
date of accession, the 1st July 2013,
– After the experience of suffering of the European city of Vukovar on the Danube which was
mercilessly destroyed in the aggression against Croatia, we appeal to all the member-states of the
Union and citizens of the neighbouring countries to prevent any future suffering of any country or
people due to our indifference, or geopolitical or economic interests, and to make every effort for
the peaceful coexistence and solidarity between peoples and states, as well as between all members
of society. Let the diversity enrich us, and not divide us. Let us follow the motto which
Coudenhove-Kalergi accepted from St. Augustin “In necessariis unitas, in dubiis libertas, in
omnibus caritas” In necessity – unity in uncertainty – liberty in every case – loving kindness.
– We appeal to all to preserve European values of freedom, democracy, social and environmental
care in a harmonious, strong, peaceful, educated and prosperous Europe, and to oppose all
totalitarian tendencies, from those condemned by Coudenhove-Kalergi in his time to those
condemned by the Pope John Paul II in our time, and to oppose every form of violence,
– We appeal to all to cherish solidarity, without which violence cannot be eradicated, and to
respect subsidiarity, whitout which democracy cannot be achieved and totalitarianism cannot be
prevented,
– We appeal to all member-states of the European Union to enlarge the Union to englobe the
contries in the South-East of Europe: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia,
Kosovo and Albania. A succour in implementing equitable solutions to their political and economic
problems, which have sometimes been provoked even by decisions of the international community,
and support to their gradual accession to the European Union will best help extinguishing the foci of
crises in the region, from which, in unfavourable conditions, even armed conflicts could emerge.
The European Union should become a Pan-Europe, i. e. a complete and united Europe.
